  13. RES regarding the Lear issue. I have reason to believe
  14. that my initial reacti
  15. ons were inappropriate. I have been enlightened
  16. regarding the mission of thes
  17. e forums. Our impatience to get all the info
  18. yesterday has led many, includin
  19. g me, to be premature in drawing conclusions.
  20. I'm not sure we haven't pressed this issue too hard 
  21. too soon without awaiting
  22. reaction time.

  24. I have interviewed Mr. Lear and whi
  25. le I have many questions regarding the
  26. nature of his material, I'm willing to 
  27. give him a chance to present his case.
  28. I have found him anxious to do so, and 
  29. I'm sure he would be open to developing
  30. a similar arrangement with Alpha. We'
  31. re supposed to be acting in a
  32. professional manner on these issues, yet we ten
  33. d to forget that we're human
  34. beings with fears, reflex reactions, an imprecise lan
  35. guage, and whether we
  36. like it or not... our own biases regarding the UFO issu
  37. e.

  39. At one time I too experienced a sighting, with witnesses, which I recorde
  40. d on
  41. paper at the time. I never released it because I was afraid of just the
  42.  
  43. reaction Lear.txt has received. Ironically, I was one of the first to put my
  44.  
  45. emotions before my head in dealing with the issue... not a good position for
  46.  
  47. the sysop of such a BBS! Why? Because Lear's contentions conflicted with my
  48. idealized view of benevo
  49. lent beings from space being necessarily commited to
  50. the same values and idea
  51. ls as we here in western civilization. Examples from
  52. our own world, even our 
  53. august group of open minded skeptics in the Paranet
  54. system, have altered this 
  55. view. If we can't
  56.  take the time to give the guy a chance to support his view
  57. s,, then what are
  58. we doing this for in the first place? Are we all, as Jim po
  59. inted out, fantasy
  60. prone even at the level of discussion?      John has agreed to sha
  61. re this
  62. resource of evidence with Lambda in the next few days by mail.

  64. ps Alpha will be afforded the same opportunity if the climate here
  65. was a litt
  66. le less hostile. It took a few days for Lambda to come around,

  74. put up or shut up." That's what were about... that's why we're here.
